Paris [France], March 29: The French counter-terrorism prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into a foiled attack on a US bank in Paris, prosecutors said on Saturday.
Officers arrested a suspect at the Paris headquarters of the Bank of America overnight before he was able to set of explosives.
The man is under investigation for manufacturing incendiary or explosive devices, as well as attempted arson and criminal damage in connection to a terrorist organisation, according to prosecutors. Further details on the attempted attack as well as the suspect's identity were initially unavailable.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised police for the swift intervention which "thwarted a violent terrorist attack."
Security and intelligence services are on high alert in light of the current global situation, he added, without explicitly saying whether the incident was linked to the war in Iran.
