Cairo [Egypt] / Washington [US], November 2: US President Donald Trump is set to welcome Syria's interim president, Ahmed Al Sharaa, to the White House in just over a week, according to a media report.
Al Sharaa is expected to travel to Washington on November 10, the news portal Axios reported on Saturday. US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack confirmed the planned meeting to Axios. In Syria, the government-affiliated TV channel Syria TV also reported on the planned trip.
According to Axios, it is expected that Al Sharaa will sign a declaration at the White House, officially adding Syria to the US-led coalition against the terrorist group Islamic State.
There was initially no official confirmation of the trip from either Washington or Damascus. (DPA)
